Howdy Folks,

Now that we have our new officers lets update our hub distribution list. If you are on it and want to stay, great.

To provide information to the district in the most efficient manner we encourage each post to provide at least two email recipients. All emails are blind cc'd to protect everyone’s privacy. Your email will not be disclosed or used for any purpose other than hub emails.

The Department encourages each post to provide the District Hub Master with an email for your post Commander and Hub Master.

Here in our 12^th District we want to have all Post Commanders, Adjutants, Hub Masters and we like having the ALA, SAL and Riders as part of the team as well.

To add an email for someone in your post or make any corrections/changes, please email the Hub Master with your post number and the information. Thanks for your support.

Mr. Robert Williams (TX-25) is chairman of the committee where the bill is stalled and the bill will die in committee without a lot of support.

Dave Etter, Commander of District 12, Division 1, Dept of Texas will be meeting with Col. Charles Fowler, (U.S Army retired). Col. Fowler is the Chairman of The American Legion Small Business Task Force, in Dallas Sunday, May 19 supporting the passage of H.R. 7401 – Contract our Veterans. This bill would dramatically expand contracting opportunities for service-disabled veteran small businesses at the Department of Defense. It will also play a big part in securing the national defense supply chain and do a lot of good for veterans both in Texas and across the nation.

Today is thursday March 28, 2024 - 11 days till eclipse

For those of us not working or in school, join friends for the experience, free public viewing areas with amenities not fully booked yet (that I know of now):

Eclipse Watch Party (let me know if you have an event planned at your post)

American Legion Post 516 is hosting a Total Eclipse in the Parking Lot Watch Party from noon to 3 p.m. on April 8. The restaurant will be closed but the club will be open. Eclipse viewing glasses available while supplies last.

Join your friends, family and neighbors in this likely once in a lifetime experience. Bring your blanket or lawn chair to the top of the hill for a full view of the sky.

Fort Worth Community Center outside areas

All community centers will host a Total Eclipse in the Park Watch Party at 1 p.m.

We have a great opportunity for you to honor or remember them while donating to the American Legion Auxiliary's Cancer Research program that provides scholarships to students fighting for a cure at the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. For a $5 donation, we will put your loved ones name on a luminary to be lit at a special ceremony on February 17th at Unit 521 in Pasadena. This is an amazing annual evening with lots of love, some tears, and beautiful remembrances of loved ones. Lots of folks doing lots of great things these last weeks and I will get the scrapbook caught up as soon as I get our doctors end of year catch up appointments out of the way. Here are a few items that may be of interest to you.

Roll Call Luncheon December 8, 2023, 11:00am - 1:00pm CST

Our District Commander suggested I pass this information on to you all. This is and excellent gathering with informative information and wonderful fellowship.

Please only RSVP once. Each guest will need to RSVP. Lunch is free for veterans and we ask for a donation for all non-veterans attending the luncheon. Being a Non-Profit means every dollar counts. We pay for lunch based on the RSVP. Meaning we have to pay even if you don't attend the luncheon. To help reduce our cost, please make sure you can attend before completing the RSVP. If you RSVP and then can't attend, then please cancel at least a week before the luncheon. The link to cancel will be in your confirmation email.

Our mission: To honor and serve our veterans by providing a regular venue for fellowship and camaraderie.

Autumn's Hope benefit will be held on November 4 at Post 516 (after the convention), 6 pm to 12 am. Bring a stuffed animal to add to our growing collection. Autumn wants to take the bears to Cook Children's Hospital since she began her cancer fight there. A stuffed animal can bring a lot of comfort to a frightened, ill child. David and Chris are preparing a BBQ feast to help raise funds for Autumn's journey. $15 will get you a plate of 2 meats and all the fixings. There are so many amazing auction and raffle items. Future Department Legion College Graduates!

This email serves as your last friendly reminder of the Department Legion College Phases 1-3 training, 01-03 Sep 23 at Hurst-Euless-Bedford American Legion Post 379 (1245 N Industrial Blvd, Bedford, TX 76021). Doors open at 7am daily for registration and training is 8am to 5pm daily. The prerequisite for this training is your Legion Basic Training Certificate. Breakfast and lunch is on your own while dinner may be purchased at Post 379 or from one of the many local restaurants.

Feel free to bring any other Basic Training graduates with you even if they are Auxiliary, SAL or civilians.

Good morning Veterans,

Join us on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 12:00 - 8:00 p.m., at Garland VA Medical Center, 2300 Marie Curie Blvd, Garland, TX 75042 for our PACT Act Summer VetFest in cooperation with the Veterans Benefits Administration.

24 VBA claims representatives, toxic exposure screening and enrollment and eligibility staff will assist Veterans with PACT Act claims and toxic exposure screenings. We encourage Veterans who want one-on-one help from a VBA claims representative to follow this link to register for an appointment.

Gun Lock Program aims to secure communities and prevent violence

Fort Worth Police Department, alongside Mayor Mattie Parker, introduced the Free Gun Lock Program during Gun Violence Awareness Month. The initiative aims to educate residents about responsible gun ownership.

Canine Companions is seeking volunteers to help raise specially bred puppies into service dogs that provide assistance to adults, children and veterans with disabilities at no cost.

Unveiling Fort Worth’s Stopping Stones

Join the historic dedication of Texas’ first memorial markers honoring enslaved individuals. This event promises to be a moving tribute to enslaved lives and a catalyst for change. The stones will be dedicated at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at 2100 Log Cabin Village Lane.
