Remembrance Day - 14 November 2021
More than 80 people gathered at Oakland Memorial Cemetery on November 14 to remember the lives sacrificed for freedom and, especially, the 20 RAF cadets who died in Terrell TX during World War II while attending the No. 1 British Flying Training School.
Remembrance Day is celebrated around the world on the Sunday nearest November 11 each year. The Rev. David Faulkner, rector of Terrell’s Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, read scriptures, prayers and gave a brief meditation. The RAF flag was lowered for a moment of silence while Bruce Snyder played The Last Post (British equivalent of Taps), followed by Reveille as the flag was raised again. A wreath of poppies was placed by the central monument.
A flyover by a vintage aircraft marked the conclusion of the ceremony. Guests then adjourned to the Museum for a reception.
These folks are our hosts for the Allied Memorial Remembrance Ride each year and great friends of the American Legion Riders
